Hi, Thanks for your interest in the Bookstore showcasing a selection of books covering an island that’s become a favourite destination for visitors since Neolithic times.

Because of its location on the Western trade routes that linked the ancient worlds leading civilisations by sea the island was always seen as a vital power base for varied rival fleets to control.

Sicily being an island always competed by sea with the varied naval powers for a share of the lucrative ancient trade routes either as allies or rivals with the fleets such as the  Minoans, Mycenaeans, Aegeans, Persians,  Phoenicians, Etruscans and Carthaginians.

Others arrived by ship to settle and contest the isles of the blessed all have left their influence on the culture of the island and the varied buildings raised by them in the islands many cities towns and settlements.

Elymians, Sicans, Sicels, Greeks,  Romans, Saracens, Normans, Angevins, Aragonese, Castilians, Austrians, Neapolitan Bourbons, Piedmontese all these past settlers have helped in shaping the island of Sicily and its diverse culture and people’s.

Visitors to the island today can explore the rich history and culture the island offers alongside the warm welcome of its people.
